Perfumed Decay — attention study

a quick, blind 15–25 min study

Thanks for helping 🙏

You're going to watch 48 short clips (about 30 seconds each) from the Perfumed Decay podcast. Each one starts on a different opening line. We're studying which openings people keep watching and which ones they skip — both are equally useful to us.

How it works

1
Watch each clip as if it were an ad that popped up before a YouTube video you wanted to see.
2
The instant you'd reach for Skip, hit the red Skip button (or press spacebar). Just like real YouTube, Skip unlocks after 5 seconds — there's a little countdown until then.
3
If a clip actually holds your interest, just let it keep playing — it records that and moves to the next one on its own.
4
React honestly, don't overthink it. There are no right or wrong answers and no outcome we're hoping for — we just want your genuine gut reaction.

Why this matters

Online video lives or dies on the first few seconds: platforms decide who else gets shown a video based on whether people keep watching or skip away early. By reacting exactly as you naturally would — skipping the moment you'd skip, watching on only if a clip genuinely grabs you — you give us honest data on what holds attention. There's no single clip we're rooting for.

Privacy: we record only the second you skip each clip, the name you choose, your browser type, and the time you finish — nothing else. The clips are in a scrambled order on purpose.
